ULTRA MILKMAIDS/TELEPHERIQUE/INOX KAPELL

Nan Tikum Remixes
2002
CD
Ignis DI012

Last night, exhausted, beaten, I lay on the bed in the evening gloom, the windows wide open, gasping for air in the sullen heat of the English summertime. Some time in the early hours there was a violent thunderstorm, which flashed white balls of light through my closed eyelids, straight in to my brain. I had this CD on a loop as I lay there, the nine untitled tracks swirling and churning through my sleeping body, mingling with the crashing thunder and the lightning flashes. Subliminal and haunting, this is much more than the simple glitch album it appears to be at first sight. Curiously melodic, conjuring vivid images from its depths, there is a pleasing calm, a subtle mournfulness about this set of recordings, which at times are capable of a blissful and ethereal beauty - none more so than Klaus Joachim of Telepherique's remix of the 'Oblique lu Night' music; cowbells and car alarms in a gorgeous unfocussed drift of tumbling, blurry sound.

STEWART GOTT - 28 June 2002
